The Difference Between Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine Arabic
In chapter two, I discuss the differences between MSA and the Levantine Arabic dialect. If you haven’t studied Fusa (MSA), then you don’t need to go through the third column, just focus on the middle one, if you studied Modern Standard Arabic, it’s good to read the whole chapter to give a lot of clarity about the differences between the two.
Learn Basic Verbs
Chapter 3 discusses the most important verbs we use in Levantine Arabic when communicating, such as I want, I can, I would like, I need, I like, I am going, etc. Each Arabic verb is conjugated in the present, past and future tense, with examples and exercises.
Present Tense
In Arabic, verb conjugation is the process of forming a verb from a root word, which often consists of 3 letters, and how the verb changes in sounds and how we write it in past and present tense.
In chapter 4, we will only focus on how to conjugate a verb in the present tense if you have already studied MSA it will be very similar, even easier.
Before moving on to the next chapter, make sure you have mastered the present tense conjugation of Arabic verbs. The Arabic verb conjunction is the most important part of the Arabic language, once you master it, you will be on your way to fluency.
Two Types of Present Tense Verbs in Levantine Arabic
In Chapter 5, I will introduce you to two types of present tense verbs in Levantine Arabic.
Don’t worry! There are not many changes, the Arabic verb conjugation remains the same. We just add one or two new letters before the verb to determine if it is present continuous or present simple.
Past Tense
In chapter 6, we worked on how to conjugate a verb in the past tense. In Arabic, we have three types of past tense, simple past, continuous past, and habitual past. The conjugation of verbs in the past tense is very clear, we need to add a suffix or a letter at the end of the verb. Make sure you learn the verb conjugation table very well. Many students get confused between the conjugation of verbs in the present and the conjugation of verbs in the past.
Verb Conjugation Table
In chapter 7, I outline tables of verb conjunctions in all the tenses that we have studied in chapters 4, 5, and 6. This will give a clear comparison of how we conjugate each verb in different tenses.
